In this heartbreaking yet inspiring TED Talks session, former member of the California Highway Patrol Sergeant Kevin Briggs speaks about what it was like to patrol the Golden Gate Bridge, the destination spot for a tragic number of suicide attempts each year. Briggs shares intimate stories from his 23 years on the job when he had to be both police officer and suicide prevention counselor. He discusses warning signs to look for and offers advice on how to confront someone as well as explains how just being there and listening can go a long way in saving a life. In it, he asks the question, do you know what you’d do or say when faced with someone contemplating suicide?
