I’ve Got Your Back; You’ve Got My Ear: Suicide Prevention in the Legal Profession

A recent study conducted by ABA CoLAP and Hazelden Betty Ford reports staggering figures regarding alcohol use disorders and mental health concerns in the legal profession. For instance, 20.6% of the participants screened positive for hazardous, harmful and potentially alcohol-dependent drinking and 28% indicated they had experienced symptoms of depression. In addition, 11.5% of the participants reported suicidal thoughts at some point during their career.

On March 21st, the ABA will host a webinar titled, I’ve Got Your Back; You’ve Got My Ear: Suicide Prevention in the Legal Profession. The program is free for ABA members and will educate attorneys, judges and law students on how to recognize the warning signs of suicide and effective ways to help colleagues who may be at risk. Register now, and please spread the word about this important topic.
