The Law Society of Upper Canada (LSUC), in Ontario, has announced its new assistance program, scheduled to begin on January 1, 2013. Under the program, lawyers and paralegals experiencing professional or personal crises will have access to professionals and confidential services such as counseling, peer-to-peer support, crisis management services, substance abuse counseling, lifestyle and specialty counseling, and on-line resources provided by Homewood Human Solutions. Ontario is the latest jurisdiction that seemingly has moved away from the lawyer assistance model supported by the policy of the ABA.
